Godot's Day

  • May 3, 2008
  • Post a comment

The origin of Godot's Day, while silly, is completely irrelevant to the holiday.

Thus, here is a list of all the future Friday the 13ths (the days Godot's is meant to be celebrated), for as long as I intend to be alive and kicking. Or at least still actively drawring.

It all started with April 13th, 2007.
Followed soon after by July 13th, 2007.

The next to come is June, 13th, 2008. Next month!

CHRISTMAS! WE HAD IT!
So yes.

Christmas morning
Christmas morning

Early AM, before anyone was up. It was nice :)

ffffff
ffffff

A really bad photo of me opening presents and resenting having the camera shoved in my face. Edited to lighten it.

Later, after everyone's presents were all opened up, we headed out to the garage, where GASP! Mom and Andrew had huge presents out there, waiting! YAY SANTA! XP

whatever could it be
whatever could it be

this is her "Gee, I wonder what this could possibly be" face (she's had it for over a month now, we just wrapped it 'cause we're silly)

egad
egad

gasp! It are a motorcycle!! (Cherry Red Honda Shadow~)

:D mooootorcycle
:D mooootorcycle

most cheerful biker ever :D -- I get to ride this one too. It's best built out of the three to allow me to reach the ground and not get my leg burned on the pipes.

Now it was Andrew's turn:

Andrew's present
Andrew's present

I WONDER WHAT IT IS
(he had NO CLUE :D)

o3o

his "holy crap, wow" face

:3

:D we're so awesome

this wasn't easy
this wasn't easy

we worked on this for 2 weeks. Made of papier mache on shaped chicken wire. Painted, and covered in real moss. The road is made from roof tiles. There are deer and a mountain lion as well. And little dudes on motorcycles. One of which is crashed :D and his parts are on the tree of shame.

2 weeks' work
2 weeks' work

this was designed to be three of the curves on the 813 curves in 11 miles of the Tail of the Dragon, a mountain road in North Carolina, near the Tennessee state line. My father went on a 2 week vacation to drive up there on his motorcycle with a friend. Regrettably, my brother could not go. So we made him one! :D He's likely the only person who can say he owns the tail of the dragon ^_^

chrissmmmaassssss
chrissmmmaassssss

my significantly smaller haul from everyone else, but still awesome. :D
Two fuzzy soft awesome socks
a sage-planting kit,
chocolate (chocolate orange, chocolate coins, etc)
hair pin
shiny new helmet all to myself~
cross-stitch tote kit
cross-stitching supplies - floss, floss-organization kits, three cross-stitching projects
an RC chevelle <3<3<3
a homemade candle
and the best fucking smelling soap on the planet, handmade. Cherry. Christ I wish I could send smells over the internet. I WANT TO EAT IT.

tote
tote

to explain the tote...

projekt eins
projekt eins

it's meant to hold my current cross-stitching projects, and keep them all organized. :) It's the only thing I actually asked for this year. Even though there's plenty more I actually wanted, but was too expensive, and I'm not going to ask for expensive things -- especially since we're still paying off the motorcycle.

fancy~
fancy~

I was waiting until Christmas to start this project, so I could keep it organized. As you can see, I finally got it started yesterday morning, and then got pulled away before I got very far. :)

Wee. Christmas. And stuff like that. :D

I'm watching Walker Texas Ranger at the moment. Chuck Norris is creepier than most people are willing to admit for fear of ass-kickery. Anyway, people yell "TEXAS RANGER!" when he appears, which is kinda weird. I don't think anyone would really do that. I think they'd yell "OHSHI- COPS!" if they were real bad guys. I doubt they'd know the difference, really. Ranger - Texan or otherwise - or a cop? Yeah, close enough. Silly TV badguys.

Also, crap, I just remembered I returned a book to the library that I wasn't prepared to return. Which is a problem, because there had been a big hub-bub about me getting it in the first place. The library I went to has these superomgawesome self-checkout things. Where you scan your card, and then scan your own books. The book I want right now wouldn't scan properly, so the helper woman had to go to the real desk and go through a big 15 minute thing just to get it checked out. WHAT THE HELL, this system is brand new, why would it suddenly be so hard to check out books normally?

Anyway, if they're going to start having this new system in libraries, my future job is going to be kind of boring.
And I say future job because DAMNIT THEY WON'T HIRE ME NOW ;_; I can make about 26K a year if I work at a library right now. Which isn't bad for a college student.
But there are no jobs available in all of Miami right now, it seems. Sigh. I need to move ;_;

Of course, considering I'm at work right now, I ought not to complain, huh? Although, I'm in my bedroom... in my nightgown... waiting for the phone extension line to ring. So I can pretend I know what I'm doing. This job didn't come with enough training D:
Silly parents, assuming I knew what I was doing when they leave me alone with their precious customers :D

But hey, any job where I can sleep in (AT work) two hours past opening, and NOT get fired... is a good enough job for me ^_^

Meanwhile

We got a new riding mower. And my idiot brother ride it all over the neighborhood now. That photo was taken of him driving it into a neighbor's driveway. (Yeah, I know. Doesn't look like a driveway. Our neighbors - the family's supposed best friends - kind of live in a planted jungle...) Mom doesn't get to mow her own lawn anymore, she is vaguely saddened. But where it used to take half a day to do the lawn work, in a rush to avoid the afternoon rain, it now only takes about 30 minutes to mow the whole front and back yards, and with ~40 minutes for edging, trimming and raking beforehand. Woo. :O

gURL.comI took the "handwriting personality" quiz on gURL.com

my handwriting style is...

dreamy doodler

Your handwriting shows that you are first and foremost an individual. A little rebellious and a lot quirky, routines bore you and you're happiest when things aren't operating on a set schedule (kind of makes school and work a drag, right?).

You seem intuitive to the point of almost being psychic, have friends from several different cliques and your clothing style is always changing. You probably have a passion for strange, found objects and might be a bit of a flakester (sometimes).

What does your handwriting say about you?

And now for updateness.

School related:  For those of you who know I'm on hiatus.... Yes. I'm still on hiatus. I have about 12 essays more to write to be caught up for the portfolio of my lit analysis class. I have a midterm for soc this week. Thursday. And I have absolutely no idea what's going on in my history of lit class, because it's at 8am, and I forget to wake up to my alarm at 6:30, because I forget to go to sleep early on monday and wednesday. I will be doing so tonight. After this. But I think I can catch up pretty quickly. I hope =/ My spring break is March 19th to 23rd

Social: what? huh? No, no social life. Never.

Art stuffs: I've started a nature project. Charcoal. We had today, and we'll have wednesday to work on it. No art class next week, because of spring review for art majors. Critique for this project will be the following monday, so... yeah. As for the box drawings... well, MUH. Too tired to do more of those right now. Too tired to do much of anything right now. Except drag my ass to classes and occasionally sleep.

I think I broke my toe. I'm not sure yet. I know I twisted my ankle, though, because it hurts to drive. As in hurts to move between accelerator pedal and brake pedal.

I dunno. I'm gonna go now. Byebye kids.

oh, PS. This is what I do when I'm not doing homework now:

So I went to my cousin's wedding last weekend. Some of you know that.

Our flight left out of MIA at 6:20pm, on it's way to Washington, DC, where our layover would be. The flight was pretty boring. The layover was only 40 minutes, so we were a little rushed. We taxied for a while, and, since I had the window seat for all flights (yay claustrophobia!), I spotted the Washington Monument and the White House :D which was pretty cool.
unfortunately, the pictures of it didn't come out very well, because my camera sucks, and the plane was shaking too much.

We discovered when we got to the Manchester Airport around 11:30-midnight that our luggage had not, in fact, followed us there. All three of our bags -- and only ours, no one elses -- were lost in transit. Shit.

So we were all pretty depressed. All our clothes for the wedding, all our warm clothes, all our toiletries and necessities and drugs... le sigh. US Airways was nice enough to give us temporary toiletries, though. Essentials. Toothbrush and toothpaste, deodorant, q-tips, bandaids, a razor and some shaving cream... So we got our car reserved, and while we were in the airport, waiting to find out if anyone knew about our luggage, I spotted my uncle marty and aunt jeanne at one of the car rental stations. Just flown in from Pennsylvania. Woot. So we talked to them for a while, and we all ended up heading out to our cars. We didn't have the directions to the hotel, as they were in my mother's luggage, so we followed him. Checked in. Slept in the same clothes we travelled in.

Sux0rs.

When we got up, we all showered and climbed back in to the car... and went in search of a pharmacy to buy a map. Because ours was in the luggage. We were intent on finding my cousin's house before our luggage was supposed to arrive at the airport at 11am. Instead... we now know southern new hampshire better than anyone.
mama drove
an'oo navigated. (this is the closest thing to a picture of me that you'll see. *points to rearview mirror*)
And I sat in the back, taking pictures of the scenery.

the houses up there are beautiful

lots of dead (but pretty) forest

there are lots of little kriks and tiny ponds and lakes everywhere

more houses

We finally found our way to my cousin's house:

cute little house on 5 acres that's in DESPERATE need of repair. Built in the early 1900s, I think, or late 1800s. By hand. There's a lot of interesting things in the yard (totally a redneck yard) but we didn't have the opportunity to explore. It was getting late, and we had to go back to the airport.

the street sort of... drops off. I'm totally not used to that O.O My flat florida... D:

cute little barn... :)

We headed out to the airport... only to discover that the luggage was still lost. So we resigned to finding a walmart to buy clothes, and headed back out to do just that. And once again... got lost -_-;;; In looking, we found s'more pretty scenery, though :D

castle shaped church... which, as we passed it, I discovered was connected to SEARLES!! That was where the wedding took place. Not this church, but Searles Castle, down the street from here, hidden behind things. It gorgeous. But you'll see that later.

We passed this one cute little tower thing that we could NOT get a good picture of like 10 times, in our exploration. Not on purpose. But this was the best photo:

and another lake... CUTE little lake.

So we finally gave up on finding the walmart, and headed back to the hotel, where my uncle had already BEEN to said walmart... and he was waiting in his car, ready to have us follow him there. He drove us straight there (HE got a car with a GPS -.-)

Anyway, I found clothes in record time, as well as a pair of ugly shoes and some tights and socks and underwear. No, there are no photos of me. My mom didn't find anything, but the clothes she wore on the plane up looked nice enough to pass for wedding atire. My brother found something adequate as well. And it didn't take us long to find the castle, because... well, we knew where EVERYTHING was now.

I missed taking a photo of the entrance, but it was gorgeous. Sorry.

this is on the drive up, continuing after the entrance

the outside of the castle, still in the car.

After we parked, we had to walk back up and around to inside that wall you see above

I was fascinated by the tower, but I wasn't allowed up.

on the walk up, in the wall, there was this random... door...
that didn't go anywhere.

mom and 'drew walking up, admiring the tower.

the front, main part of the castle, on the inside. Nothing big, but still impressive enough.

CAKE! *...cough...*

entering the main part were these little lion statues

inside...

"Anno... 1915"

some soft jazz players... nice tone...

(sorry most of the inside pictures suck... there was too many people using flash cameras, it was starting to hurt my eyes)

I just thought these were neat. They had little musical note paper things intertwined in them.

sun set, 4:30pm

the "alter"...

there was a second floor balcony that my brother, uncle, aunt and a few other random people, stood on to look down to watch the ceremony.

Dan, my cousin's then-betrothed, is the first. Then his older brother, best friend, and Scott, my cousin (the younger brother of the one getting married... who stuck his tongue out at me while this picture was being taken.. :P)

Amy looked GORGEOUS... unfortunately, this was the only photo during the actual ceremony that I was able to get. It was so cute. The two of them were so nervous that they were both bouncing a little, and swaying. She kept almost-crying... *grin* actually, she made us pause the ceremony so she could dig a tissue out of her bust (she turned around, saying "hold on" and made a show of digging around in her dress.. funniest thing I've ever seen at a wedding :D)

after the chairs were removed, I was able to get a few shots of the fireplace <3 ... above it is a carving of the castle itself that says on one side "AD" and the other "1912"

...

Then we all sat around chatting a while in a little lounge area, next to the room there ceremony took place in. My brother now loves the uncle we never see. My mom's older brother.

..okay, let me explain who this all was. The wedding was my cousin's. My mom's older sister's daughter. So it was Marilyn, Marty and Marian all together again (no, my Grams had no imagination), in that order.

my mother with her mother, my grams, and her latest husband, Warren, whom I met for the first time that day. (and Andrew's hip)

andrew, uncle marty and scott (cousin) showing off their similar traits... that ugly backwards thumb... (we all have it, just a little. It's a Miller thing), with amy running by in the background

they caught her, and all look horrible in this picture. All of us were completely blind by flash by now.

We ate a huge dinner soon after, in a separate room, which I could not even come close to finishing. They actually made us go outside in the cold to get to the dining hall D:

Then we came back over to this room after dinner and socialization to do more socialization. Then, finally, the cutting of the cake! Wewt!

He's left-handed, she's right-handed...
and they had their first fight as a married couple over WHERE TO CUT THE DAMN CAKE...
Dan was picking at the thing.

they did the nice thing, and used forks.. D: And when she put the fork in his mouth, it got really quiet with all the photos being taken, and I apparently said "Aww, she's being nice" really loudly, and everyone laughed and tried to egg her on to shoving it in his face... but she didn't.

he returned the favor.

And they stood there arguing some more. She said she wanted it, but he said "nah, go get your own, this one's mine!" which was pretty amusing.
they ended up giving it to Dan's 12 year old daughter, Katie (who I talk to via emails sometimes) ...(don't worry, Dan's like 30, he's not some old creepy guy. Amy's 27)

So we all had some cake, and andrew and I explored the castle a little more (without the camera, unfortunately, sorry), and we ended up leaving around 8:30-9.  BTW!! Walking back down that walled-in area to go back down to the car... OH MY GOD! ;o; I was wearing a skirt, and suddenly, this gust of FREEZING cold wind shot through and practically blew my skirt up, and I SCREAMED... ;o;

Anyway, we headed over to a bar across the street from our hotel called Margarita's, to meet up with the uncle-that-we-never-see (Marty) to talk and catch up. Not long after, half of the wedding party showed up :D My cousin Scott included, and then eventually even Amy and Dan.

Mom and I left around 11, leaving Andrew there to talk to Scott and Marty, because... well yeah. Guys. But mom was tired, so I left with her, so she wasn't alone, even though I was starting to wake up because of the hyper, drunken atmosphere and good music :)

We got back and stopped at the front desk to get another room key (because we left our one with Andrew to get in later)... and what do we see behind the counter? My mom's and my brother's bags. Mine? No. Not mine. Mine was still in Tijuana or some place warmer.

So we dragged them up, and I once again slept in my clothes, bitterly, while my brother and my mom got to sleep in their proper bedclothes.

The next morning, we packed up to come home. Or, rather, THEY packed up to go home. I just put my shoes on  and sighed a lot.

We went downstairs early, at the complimentary breakfast with my grams and her husband... I ate a little TOO much... I needed comforting, damnit, my luggage was missing D:

After, we stopped at the counter to ask if the luggage could be forwarded back to our address, and when we mentioned it, the woman at the counter said "oh... this luggage?" and pulled it out from the back room.

O)U*Q#THLOJKANMgpi9jwegtjlnrg

My luggage came in around 7am the morning we were leaving -_-;;; So I defiantly grabbed it and ran to the public bathroom to change out of the nasty clothes I'd been wearing for two days, and was instantly happy again.

We all packed back into the car, mom, me, andrew, gram and warren, to go back to the airport for our 11:30am flight back home.

I took many pictures from the planes. :)

New hampshire.

massachussetts..

the coast line :D
:D:D

there was a perpetual sunset (sunrise?).... while we were in the air...

landing back in Washington DC for our hour-long layover... was too fogged over, so I didn't see the monuments again.

The flight back to miami was... long, at best. And... extremely cloudy, over the atlantic...
clouds
clouds
MORE CLOUDS...

Touching down at sunset... after the clouds cleared, ... this was just so cool

cool rays around the wing
another of the sunset things

andrew and mom giggling

cute little puffy clouds, over the ocean

then finally...
miami

The Dolphins were obviously playing that day.

a never-ending city...

I took a few shots of the Everglades, for nik:

the city...

...landing looked cool.

ahh, miami

my dad drives too fast to get any good images while moving.

and sunset, Sunday evening.

Voila. Home. And yes, the luggage was there with our plane this time. We came home, I uploaded these to my computer, ordered a pizza, and all promptly passed out.

Copy-cat

I'm going to copy other people, and do that long ass list of thingers to draw.
It's going to take me a year, because I haven't got much energy lately, and my classes aren't exactly lenient toward my social drawing schedule. Thus the latest break in Overly Enjoyable.

So yes. This will take me for-fucking-ever to do.

1.) Make 100 pics each pic having a theme listed below. Each pic should have ONE and only ONE theme to it, for it to count.

2.) No time limit so have fun

3.) The main picture should be drawn but not limited to. for all fair purposes, people are allowed to use their paint programs and photo shop to create the pic.

3a.) pics should be of own artistic ability. You may not edit photos, or break any other rules set out in the Da etiquette policy. Your pics can be anything from sketches and doodles to great master pieces. Just have fun with it.

4.) The list below is to be placed somewhere in your journal for others to see that......
A.)You are in the challenge
B.)What you have completed

5.) make sure to update this list and check off what is done and make a link to the pic

6.) In the comments for your art work note if it is part of the list and what ONE theme it is.

And now... THUH LEEST!

In other news

I can't get the song that never ends out of my head. It's getting rather frustrating, you know. I've had it there for several years now. It really doesn't end. Someone please forcibly remove it. I'm all go for surgery if it's necessary to remove the part of my brain that it has infected. Maybe that's why I have no short term memory, that song has EATEN IT.

In other news, hello. I forgot this was here for a while. I am here now.

Classes started the day after my birthday this year. Next fall, it will start ON my birthday. Last fall, it started two days before my birthday. Fall 2008 will start the day after my birthday. Do we see a pattern yet? Yes, I'm talking about my birthday. Birthdays suck. Don't celebrate them.

Also, Classes suck. Don't go.
No wait, do go, but don't do the work.
No, that's not right either. Go, and do the work, but don't take it so seriously. There we go.

I have to leave for german in like ten minutes. But I think I said that ten minutes ago. Whatever. I'm very tired.

The egg I was trying to hatch a month ago and gave up on and then forgot to throw away exploded last night. All over everything. It was so disgusting. And random. Scared the crap out of me and my cat, bursting like that. I could see a formed, gooey spine in the green nasty mess that was in the larger part of the egg that was still in tupperware on my desk. We had to fumegate my room after, because it smelled sooo nasty, so I slept on the couch. You guys, I cannot begin to express to you how disgusting a rotten egg smells. Oh my fucking God.

Anyway, the couch. Slept on.  I fell off a few times, and my shoulder hurts because it's ungodly uncomfortable. There was a thing in there stabbing me in the rib all night. And Rudi decided to sleep on my hip, so I couldn't move without knocking her off, which consequently knocked me off as well.

So I got up early and then slept in my first class today, because sleep on that tiny desk was more comfortable than it was on that couch.

And now I'm wasting so much time sitting here typing this. I don't want to go to German. It's hard to pay attention when you can't understand the professor. Not only because my German is so bad, but because she's Polish, and sometimes slips INTO polish or swedish or russian or whatever else language she's learned since she was a kid, and I sit there numb and oggly-eyed.

Yay oggly-eyed.

Okay, that's enough fun facts for today, I'm going to start packing up my crap that has spread over the table I'm using (sitting in the common room in the library). It's going to take me a while.

Toodles.
